This weekend we learned the news that Dr. Ralph Crawshaw passed away on May 24th. Dr. Crawshaw was a psychiatrist and activist who dedicated much of his career to improving health care for Oregonians. He was central to the creation of the Oregon Health Plan, and founded several non-profit organizations dedicated to mental health care, public health, and environmentalism. The Oregonian has published an obituary and a biographical article.
Dr. Crawshaw loved libraries and archives: A prolific reader and writer, he was tireless in his curiosity about the world, and his reference questions about everything from medical ethics to entomology always turned into a fascinating philosophical discussion. He will be remembered with great fondness by many in the library.
