Karen and I both had a great time at the Society of American Archivists Annual Meeting last week in New Orleans.
As always, it was difficult to choose from among all the great panel presentations, meetings, and events that competed for our attention. We both attended timely sessions on succession planning and on the intersection between archives and institutional repositories. Other hot topics included community archives, collaborations with non-traditional archives users, and professional development for the "next generation" of archivists. I participated in a panel on fundraising at the Archives Management Roundtable, a lightning round on digitizing oral histories, and co-chaired a lively meeting of the Women Archivists Roundtable.
While conferences can bring information overload, I also find that I come back re-energized with lots of fresh ideas for our department. And it's always fun when someone reads my name badge and says, "Oh, I read your blog!"
