American Women's Hospital Service collections at Drexel University

While working on a reference question, I ran across some interesting collections at The Legacy Center at Drexel University College of Medicine that have considerable overlap with our collections on Esther Pohl Lovejoy, specifically her work with the American Women's Hospital Service. The center holds a large (63 linear feet) collection of American Women's Hospitals records, 1917-1982 - Series II consists of manuscripts, reports, and awards that Lovejoy kept during her term as President of AWH from 1919-1967. A related collection of American Women's Hospital Service photographs contains photographs and correspondence of Dr. Lovejoy.

Both collections were processed as part of a two-year collaborative project of the Philadelphia Area Consortium of Special Collections Libraries (PACSCL), funded by the Council on Library and Information Resources. The project grew out of PACSCL's earlier assessment of unprocessed collections in member libraries, becoming a model for other consortial "Hidden Collections" projects.
