2011 Campbell Lecture in Pediatric Surgery

Dr. Jack Campbell stopped by this week to discuss historical pediatrics books and the upcoming Campbell Lecture in Pediatric Surgery. The 2011 lecture will be held on May 26. This year's lecture, "Longterm Outcomes in Childhood Cancer: The Unintended Consequences of Success," will be given by Jay L. Grosfeld, M.D., the Lafayette F. Page Professor Emeritus of Pediatric Surgery at Indiana University.

The John R. Campbell, M.D. Lectureship in Pediatric Surgery was established in 2008 "to bring new ideas and thinking in pediatric surgery to OHSU Doernbecher Children's Hospital." The first annual lecture, “Pediatric surgery: A 62-year perspective from the nation’s oldest children’s hospital" was given by former Surgeon General C. Everett Koop, M.D.

Oregon College of Art and Craft "Scavenger Hunt" update

Yesterday we welcomed Beth Robinson back to HC&A. Beth is curating the fantastic Oregon College of Art & Craft "Scavenger Hunt" project that I posted about in February. Since then, we've had almost 30 OCAC-affiliated artists come in to visit the artifact that they randomly selected from our museum collection. Karen has worked one-on-one with most of them to handle, research and interpret the artifact. Beth is now starting the process of scheduling studio visits to check in on everyone's progress.

"The Hunt," an exhibition of the artists' work, will open at OCAC's Hoffman Gallery in July. Stay tuned here and on Beth's blog for more news!
